Sites we like: 320 and up, Spiegel Design Group, and ProPublica

This week’s sites we like put the small screen first, show off great design, and contribute to journalism in the public interest.

Screenshot of 320 and up

320 and up is a boilerplate extension that uses a mobile-optimized stylesheet as its starting point. FacitWeb, designed by Typekit’s Tim Ahrens, is versatile at all sizes in the responsive, monochromatic layout. Be sure to resize the browser to see the design flex.

Spiegel Design Group features a big, bright design, with large black text on a clean white background. Proxima Nova looks smart when set small, but at large sizes the letterforms demonstrate just a bit of cheekiness — the perfect foil to Spiegel’s short, savvy copywriting.

ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom dedicated to exposing abuse of the public trust. FF Meta Serif shows off its serious side, working along a simple color palette and minimal layout to communicate both authority and approachability.

That’s all for this week; share sites that you like in the comments.
